The full review
The double hot plate is Kenyan rental housing's secret weapon — for bedsitters, hostels and first apartments it replaces a full cooker at a tenth of the price. Plug in, cook ugali on one plate and sukuma on the other, done.
Cast-iron solid plates are the durable choice — heavier and slower to heat than coil, but they hold temperature evenly and survive years of daily use. Each plate runs its own thermostat, so you can simmer on one and boil on the other.
Honest limits: they're slower than gas for boiling, they draw serious power (don't share the socket with a kettle), and plates stay hot after switching off — treat them like a cooling pan, not a counter.
